Description
Step 12 of Alcoholics Anonymous seems to be appropriate to the life of a praying mantis. Recovery is difficult and working the 12 steps can be very difficult. However, as the praying mantis's life is short, it is a survivor. It take courage to live, and more courage and tenacity to work the step of recovery.
Recovery is a difficult path, yet, those who do manage to complete these steps, go on to pass their successes and failures to others who are seeking to break the chains of addiction.
Patiently waiting for its next meal, the Praying Mantis waits for long periods of time. It is always interesting to see watch their ability to change color to match their surroundings. This one was a darker brown earlier in the week.
Large birds, frogs, bats, birds, snakes are natural predators of the mantis familhy.
Today, he stood, statue still, as the sunlight reflected on his body. Perhaps he was meditating, praying for his next dinner. These insects are carnivores. The male has the misfortune of being eaten by the female after mating. If males have not mated, females will seek them out and kill them to protect their egg casings. Females die shortly after the winter seasons settle in. Generally, the lifespan of these insects is 10-12 months if the climate is moderate to warm. In the spring to early summer, insects emerge from their egg casings.
