Description
It is always a thrill to find an adult praying mantis in my garden, though not surprising. I find egg casings everywhere in the garden. Yet, with their color, it is often difficult to find them unless I am "eye to eye" with them. That is what happened here!
Gently clinging to the soft petals of the red rose, a praying mantis, Mantis religiosa, watches in frozen silence for an insect to fly by. Known by the front legs which are bent in a position such as to suggest prayer, he will quietly sit until an insect comes close. Then, suddenly, it will pounce on the catch for dinner. Amazing creatures, it is often difficult to see them until a slight movement of their head, that one can notice this unusual insect waiting for its prey.

Dear Miroslava, I am so totally sorry for not responding to the feature of "Praying for Dinner" which was featured 1-8-19. I am totally honored. For the past two months, I have been very ill and have begun to return slowly to the group the past few days. Thank you for the honor you have given me!

Wow Janet...I don't see them all that often, but at least once a year. They are so incredible to watch! I have several view of them and will get another one up soon! Thank you for your comments. They have always interested me...since I was a kid. Their egg casings are interesting. Ive seen a lot of them as they have hatched...the tiny little babies...just adorable! Thanks for stopping by!
