Description
I don't know his name, but for me, he will be George. Giving names is so important. George, the same Eurasian Owl as in the other photos, was found in a burned out area and found by the forest service. They left him, in hopes that the mother would come and feed him. The bird show told us that it is a myth, that once you touch a baby bird, the mother will not return. Rather, it will continue feeding it, AND that if you put it back in the nest, it will continue to be safe. So this is what the rangers did.
Alas, the Mother did not return. So the bird rescue took George in and hand raised him. When checked out by the vet, they discovered he had a massive ear infection that would render him nearly impossible to hear a mouse under 2 feet of snow, as most owls can. It would deter his growth. So, he was taken into the rescue to live.
He really believes he is a human, and has absolutely NO interest in other owls, but rather, "caters" to the human female population. If he begins hooting at you, AND you are the female sort of person, leave...
George, truly is a magnificent bird.
