Description
Purple is the color of royalty, of kings. In antiquity, purple dye was a prized commodity because of how difficult it was to obtain. In particular, purple dye was obtained from the harvesting of certain marine snails.
In light of how labor-intensive it was to produce purple dye, purple apparel was very expensive and often only worn by kings, other royal members, or those with high-ranking authority. As such, the color purple became known as a mark of royalty and sovereignty.
Jesus was draped by a purple cloth as the soldiers mocked Him as he was being crucified. They mocked him and said, “You say, you are the king of the Jews! Come down.”
How this must have grieved him, but most of all His father God.
This purple dahlia reminds me of Jesus - His full but short life…His life as my King. The full petals, dotted with the pollen from the orange center, remind me how God is at the center of all life…the center of ALL creation. He is the Creator of COLOR. He gives us joy!
