Description
The first time I saw one of these ugly worms, I immediately called my grandmother who had wonderful gardens! It was that day I realized that these creatures, are not the best pest to have in the garden. This Tomato Hornworm is creepy and destructive. At the head of the worm is an aphid doing what they do.
Here are some facts about these critters.
*Tomato hornworms are very large caterpillars with a horn-like tail.
*Their favorite plant is tomato.
*Hornworms chew leaves and can completely defoliate plants.
*They can also chew holes in the fruit.
*Physical removal is usually the only necessary management.
They are difficult to spot until you are right on them, and that they are hard to find. I came across two today. I was only aware of these worms when I spotted a a large fly annoying the worm. It would land on the worm, then fly to another spot and land again. They battle of nature was interesting.

Oh so great! A green caterpillar within the green. Looks like a tomato caterpillar! They don't like tomato plants sprayed with a mixture of vinegar, jalapeno and garlic watered down!
