This male peacock displays his beautiful feathers in the shape of a “net” to capture its mate. It is all so very interesting to watch them in the spring through summer months, when the mature males are ready to find their matesl
Males (peacocks) engage females (peahens) by displaying their elongated train (upper tail covert) feathers in iridescent colours. A courting peacock raises and vibrates his tail and train feathers in front of a peahen during the January-September mating season of the species. Practice makes perfect, as the young immature peacocks wil display their underdeveloped feathers in order to woo a peahen into his net…unsuccessfully, I might add. The young peacock shortly lowers his feathers. There will be another year!
