Many years ago I met the most wonderful woman who would mentor and be a friend to me. She was Navajo. I was not. Her brother was a Navajo Code Talker, a secret she only acknowledged after his death. This woman was extremely private…wearing Western clothing to work, yet changing into the tradional Native American clothing after returning home. She raised 11 wonderful children. I will always remember this woman of wisdom and her sister, who befriended me, a Westerner, and welcomed me into her home.
