Description
The American Kestrel is the most colorful and common falcon in North America. It is from Alaska to Tierra de Fuego occuring in towns as well as wild lands. These hunters are distinguised from hawks by their long wings, which are bent back at the "wrist" and excpt for the Crested Caracara, narrow and pointed. Females are larger than males. Birds of prey use their notched bills to kill prey by severing its spinal column at the neck. This photo was taken at a Winery event where there was a Bird Rescue Group discussing their organization and how they work with these birds
