Description
Canyon de Chelly in Arizona, is a wonder to be seen! Thousands of years ago, the Anasazi, the fore, unners of the Navajo people, lived in this massive canyon. Beautiful and shady Cottonwood trees act as a canopy for the women and children during the day, or whlie they are weaving or cooking. Russian Olives, brought to America by the Spanish explorers, now are overtaking the Cottonwood trees.
When the rains come, the canyon is filled with water. Wind and water have hewn out this canyon over millions of years…much like the Grand Canyon was hewn out…just that Canyon de Chelly is not as large.
However, what sets this canyon apart, is that the Anasazi lived high in the Granite cliff, in the hewn out caves which these maticulous people built homes from the adobe. Incredibly, many of the ruins are still intact after the ravaging which occurred once the Spanish and Americans “discovered” the West, and plundered the people, killing many.
Now, we are left with wonderful ruins to learn how the Anasazi lived - a proud and brilliant people, who fought to the death to maintain their life. Unfortunately, as time marches on, these brave people, lost their battle.
Here are 3 horses that roam the canyons. What beauty it is to see. A yearling trots along next to its Mother. Are these related to some of ane Ancient Anasazi? We won’t know…just that we are thrilled to see them.
