Description
Wings beating at a very high rate, ruffle the head feathers of this Rufus who is on its southern migration pattern. Aggressive and mean tempered, these short term visitors even run off the established Anna Male hummingbirds. Their orange coloring and larger size let me know they are here temporarily, but what a joy to see them. It is always a joy to see them with their wings displayed - almost in transparent fashion.
As a note, the white above the eye of the hummingbird acts as a “false eye” - the attacking hummingbird will often mistake this mark as the eye of the opposing bird. However, when you see a hummingbird with a spot that appears discolored in the middle of the chest, you can bet that this bird is truly a warrior and has survive many battles!
Thank you to the Administrators who have featured my photo in their groups!
