Description
Several years ago, I was given some dahlia bulbs. I planted them but nothing grew…until last last . This specific flower, easily can grow to 5 inches across! The beauty of this lovely flower makes people actually come over to the flower to see if it is real or not.
The plant was growing so quickly, that I had to secure a tomatoe cage to keep these beauties from falling over. Now, people gaze at my plant as they drive by, or out for a daily walk.
Dahlia’s are tubers which should be planted in the spring. HOWEVER, since we live in a mild climate, my dahlia’s stay in all year long. Perhaps it is because it is in a sunny spot, the plant does not fade away as most of my other plants.
Beautiful boquets often include the colorful dahlias. They come in just about every color. This yellow centered and orange petals, have long stems. My little purple ones are good for a bud vase.
Dahlias, I discovered are tubers and not bulbs. Rather, they are swollen underground stems that need to be separated eventually. Each tuber, when separated, needs to have an eye, which are located closest to the old stalk. Since I have not separated mine, this fall, they will be separated and then replanted in the spring. This specific dahlia, is classified as a Decorative Dahlia’s. Truly, it is beautiful.
There are various kinds of dahlias. They include Decorative Dahlia, Anemone, single, ball, pompom, cactus, semi cactus, and water lily.
