Description
The year these petroglyphs were made, indicates that the season had been rather lean. Perhaps the rains did not come to water the crops. Maybe they Navajo people had begun to be rounded up by Kit Carson, or perhaps it is a petroglyps of a hunt that was successful of a hunt for meat; At least the people had meat this year. The horses are very lean. It was not a good year to live in Canyon De Chelly.

I love Petroglyphs. We go to Lake Powell and there are wonderful cliff dwellings and art. Wonderful capture of this ancient art.

MaryLee, thank you for the comments about the petroglyphs and the l/f. Indeed, so much can been seen and interpreted in our own way!

Sarah, these petroglyphs are protected by the Reservation. Few vandals get to these places...and very few have been affected. HOWEVER, the natural elements - weather, wind...etc DO affect these beautiful images, and also the cracks in the rocks...Unfortunately, many have fallen, but there are photos which have documented all of these incredible rock paintings!
