Description
Each family of the Ancient Puebloan families who lived in the cliffs of Mesa Verde, had their own kiva. The kiva is predominately a religioius place, but also could have served as living quarters for the family during the extremely cold winter days. Here, the women and children could work on their weaving and stay warm. Many of the homes/kivas, had what is called a "T" shaped door. This was to help prevent people who wanted to harm the Puebloans. If an intruder tried to enter, the odd shaped door was able to alert the family, and they would be able to protect themselves due to the shape of the door and the intruder not understanding the dynamics of the home.
